Rock Beats Paper

college is a bitch. i'm switchin out of engineering to a business degree that will pretty much do the same thing for me in the end. more time for production, anyway!

in other news, warspawn and i are trying to ramp up our shit, push envelopes and all that good stuff. we will be samplers till we die, but we might just branch out a bit and start working with artists we typically wouldnt work with. in reality, we wouldn't really work with anyone else because we're both antisocial, but whatever. be on the look out for some new shit.

i hope people have enjoyed the last few tracks i posted, especially the ones going back to wu-tang, lo-fi basics. after listening to "36 chambers" and "return to the 36 chambers" for months on end, shit starts sounding too clean. i dont expect it to change anytime soon. ironically enough, while the kids are listening to new, clean, fresh sounding hits on the radio, i'm going backwards and trying harder and harder to make stuff sound dirty.

for now, my lyrical debut is on hold indefinitely, the current plan is to just write for 2 or 3 years straight while focusing on producing.

hopefully, me n spawn can make a whole album together. frankly, today's shit sounds like it comes off an assembly line. same mastering, same sounds, all marketing and no art. funny how the more mainstream sounding artists on this site can actually make art, and the mainstream artists out on the radio can't.

at any rate, expect a step forward and backward in production. rewind 15 years ago, that's where we're headed. marty mcfly wont have shit on us, we will bring back those beats of old and bring the fucking ruckus.

best,
y.v.

You know I'm on board for whatever ya'll do. Spawn swears I was abducted and inducted (and reducted) into the religion surrounding The Silent Minority, so I must obey all words which spew forth from the fonts of Knowledge and Wisdom, YunVeroz and Cyrez tha War-Spawn...

Serious, bring the crunchiness, you know that "N.Y. State of Mind", "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'", "Flipmode Squad Meets Def Squad", that dirty old school samplism kicking off the best MC's off the east coast for the last 15 years. Sometimes I feel closer kin to that shit than my own roots in Dirty South country rap tunes, maybe it was the cd and tape collection I remember amassing back in those early days. There's what you need, a Tascam to record out to tape and then back into the PC. True tape saturation and all the crackles and tape hiss of that old school boombox shit! Maybe I'll try my hand at creating a VSTFX in SynthMaker for tape saturation, crackle, hiss and bitcrushing a bit. I already created my own Moog synth tonight, sounds like a good project for me.

Anyways, rambling early in the morning.

Peace

NEW PROJECT 2 steps forward 10 steps back!

Hit me up on Monday for the Tape emulator I ended up with, it actually came out pretty nice, although it's got a constant noise profile which gets annoying in FL while the the VST is loaded. Haven't installed a mute in it yet, but will keep working on it to see if I can throw a mute button or a mute gate on it while there's no signal coming through it. We'll see...but yeah, I'll send it to you and Spawn on Monday to see if it's useful to ya'll and prolly to Billy because he'll like the one instrument I've tested it out thoroughly on, Sylenth1's Overdriven Guitar preset. It actually made it sound like a guitar coming through a hot amp with line noise and some tape hiss, and the compressor on my preset is right at that magic Tape warmth setting where it's almost overloaded but not quite.

Next I'm working on adding randomized crackle and pop samples and another layer of noise to give it a little more authentic feel.

Hit me up.

Peace
